Savoring 2025

Savor: verb “to enjoy food or an experience slowly, in order to enjoy it as much as possible.” Cambridge dictionary
Homeschooling, sports practices and games, church, family activities, appointments, and more fill our schedules daily. Another year has come and gone in what seems to be a flash. The children who I used to rock are large enough to be rocking me! How did this happen?
Time flies. We each are given the same amount of hours each day, yet how we spend these hours makes all the difference. This year, 2025, I have chosen a word to live by…Savor. As the clock ticks and I find myself going through the motions, I remind myself how fleeting this gift is. I want 2025 to be different. I want to look back and know that I have enjoyed and experienced life to the fullest, in order to enjoy it as much as possible. I desire to take each conversation and interaction as a blessing to show those I care about that they matter more than anything or anyone else in that moment.
I long to use my time to savor moments with the Lord that I would have missed if I weren’t willing to sit a few moments longer to be still. I want to savor the things that fill my days and seem trivial in importance…the meal prep, cooking, baking, shopping, laundry, cleaning, teaching, and grading. Driving to and from the games where I observe my children doing things they enjoy and bring about joyous memories as well as challenges to overcome, I want to savor.
The moments I am pushing my physical body to endure yet another workout, help me, Lord to savor. Help me to find joy in all things. Help me to focus on what I am doing and your purposes and live my life as free of distraction as I possibly can.
After all, we are told in Ephesians 5:16 to “make the best use of the time because the days are evil.” In Psalm 144:4 we are reminded that our days are like a passing shadow. It is so easy to go about our days going to task to task without pausing to look others in the eye when they are speaking, to halfway listen and have to ask questions, already answered, due to distraction. Filling our days with tasks that we mindlessly fulfill could be so much better spent when paired with prayer, singing, pondering, and recalling the blessings that we see around us.
My prayer this year is to savor…to really experience…to really live…and to store all of the beautiful memories in my mind and in my heart to recall in the future. For, all these little moments add up to years, and our years to a lifetime. All for His glory, and for His renown. Isaiah 26:8

Beautifully written Lauren…praying you are able to savor the big and the small this year. Love you sister….
Great point, Lauren! Thank you for reminding us to savor. This reminds me of the need to be fully present. So often we can allow our minds to be elsewhere instead of engaged in what the Lord has for us for that moment.
God bless!
Thank you, friend for posting about Savoring. Something I need to do more of and a good reminder to savor every moment. Blessings.
